Yes — you can ship wine to Ontario since July 21, 2026
Since July 21, 2026, authorized out-of-province Canadian producers can sell and ship wine directly to Ontario consumers under the LCBO’s own out-of-province direct-to-consumer program. Older pages calling this illegal describe a rule that no longer applies.
- Ontario DTC shipping
- What changed, and when
- Ontario’s LCBO out-of-province direct-to-consumer program has applied since July 21, 2026, letting eligible Canadian producers based outside Ontario sell and ship alcohol directly to individual Ontario consumers once authorized. The same effective date matches a Canadian Free Trade Agreement operating agreement on direct-to-consumer alcohol sales between provinces, dated July 21, 2026.
- Authorization comes first
- A producer needs LCBO out-of-province DTC authorization before shipping. Eligible products must be manufactured in the producer’s home province and permitted for sale there. This is a business authorization step for the producer, not a restriction on the consumer placing the order.
- What an order actually costs
- Once authorized, each order carries an LCBO markup that varies by category — 0% on Canadian Wine, 19.1% on all other wines — plus a further 13% HST on that markup and a container deposit. See the full rate table, including cider, spirits, and beer, on the LCBO DTC markup rates page, or run the free calculator on your own order.
- Reporting stays the producer’s job
- Authorized sellers file quarterly financial reports — including a NIL report in a quarter with no sales — covering Q1 Apr 1–Jun 30 (due Jul 20), Q2 Jul 1–Sep 30 (due Oct 20), Q3 Oct 1–Dec 31 (due Jan 20), and Q4 Jan 1–Mar 31 (due Apr 20).
- What this calculator does not do
- This engine calculates markup, HST-on-markup, and deposit components from the current source pack — it is not a complete remittance, and LCBO workbook generation is not available here. Authorization, submission, payment, and correction through LCBO’s own channels remain the producer’s responsibility.
